OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The number of Goucher riders who will
advance to compete at the IHSA Zone IV Region I Championships on
March 29 increased by three today at the region's final show of the
regular season.
Cady Klimas (Miami, Fl./Palmer Trinity) was awarded second place in open equitation over fences today and earned enough points to qualify for regionals. Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook), who had previously qualified for regionals in open equitation on the flat, took first place in her class today and finished in third place in the region's high point rider standings with 58 points. Julie Fink (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) placed first in open flat and second in open fences.
At the intermediate level, Emily Shelley (Reisterstown, Md.) and Claire McMahon (Kings Point, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) both became regional qualifiers today in the flat class. Shelley was awarded first place in intermediate flat; McMahon had previously qualified in intermediate fences.
The third rider who qualified for the first time today was Sarah Ashby (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) in novice flat. She and Alexandra Dupont (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) both took first place at today's show in the flat class; Ashby also placed second in novice fences.
Emily McCormack (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Shauntae Robinson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) both placed second in beginning walk-trot-canter.
Goucher's riding program, which hosted today's show at Garrison Forest School, placed second in the team scoring with 38 points and concluded the season with 263 points to finish in second place behind Mary Washington (337 points).
