WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After finishing as the runner-up in the first two IHSA Zone IV Region I riding shows of the season, Goucher came out on top at today's event hosted by William & Mary. And, as a result, Mary Washington's lead over Patte Zumbrun's program in the region standings was reduced to 13 points.
Goucher picked up 39 points today for a season-long total of 109 points. Mary Washington was second today with 35 points and now has 122 for the season.
Goucher's Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) was the high point rider at today's show as she was awarded first place in open equitation on the flat and second in open equitation over fences. With the 12 points she earned today, Brandt took over sole possession of second place in the region's high point rider standings.
There were two other first-place performances by Goucher riders at today's show: by Emily Shelley (Reisterstown, Md./home schooled) in intermediate flat and by Courtney Levine (Miami, Fl./Miami Palmetto) in novice flat. Levine also placed second in novice fences.
Two Goucher riders qualified today for the Zone IV Region I Championships in March: Levine in novice flat and Valerie Wiseman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) in advanced walk-trot-canter.
