RICHMOND, Va. – With her performance at today's IHSA Zone IV Region I riding show, Goucher's Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) was awarded first place and qualified to compete at regionals in March in open equitation on the flat.
The freshman remains in second place in the region's high point rider standings with 38 points, 10 behind the leader, Jessica Van Brocklin from Mary Washington.
Brandt's first-place performance was one of four by Goucher riders at today's event. The others were by: Valerie Wiseman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) in novice flat, Effie Bourgin (Savage, Md./Atholton) in advanced walk-trot-canter and Shauntae Robinson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) in walk-trot. Courtney Levine (Miami, Fl./Miami Palmetto), who had already accumulated enough points to qualify for regionals in novice fences, competed at the intermediate level today and placed second.
The gap between Mary Washington and Goucher in the IHSA IV-I standings widened today. Mary Washington earned 49 points for a season total of 171. Goucher was today's reserve champion and picked up 35 points, but is now 27 points behind in the standings.
