Mary Washington Overtakes Goucher in Zone IV-I Race

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Goucher dropped out of first place in the IHSA Zone IV Region I standings after scoring a season-low 26 points today at the first of this weekend's back-to-back shows at Hazelwild Farm.
Drew Santoro (Marblehead, Mass./Walnut Hill School for the Arts) turned in Goucher's only first-place performance as she earned top honors in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation. Abigail Thomas (New York City, N.Y./Rudolf Steiner) placed second in walk-trot.
In the open equitation division, Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School) and Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) were both awarded second place in the jumping phase. Postel, who became a regional qualifier in open fences with his performance today, also placed third in open flat.
Laura Parks (Apex, N.C./Raleigh Charter) placed second in novice flat.
Mary Washington earned 45 points today and flip-flopped with Goucher in the race for the Zone IV Region I team title. Mary Washington now has a 16-point lead over Goucher, 235-219.
