Five from Goucher Advance to Compete at Zone IV Finals on April 10
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The two Goucher riders competing in the open division are now just one step away from earning a trip to the IHSA National Horse Show after their stellar performances at today's Zone IV Region I Championships at Hazelwild Farm.
That next step will take place April 10 when Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School) and Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) lead a contingent of five riders from director Patte Zumbrun's program to the Zone IV Championships at the Bridgewater Equestrian Center in Harrisonburg, Va.
In order to advance to the Zone IV finals, riders needed to finish third or better today at the regional competition. Postel, who was the 2010-11 reserve high point rider for Zone IV-I, placed first in open equitation over fences and second in open equtation on the flat; Brandt took first in open flat and third in the jumping phase.
Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) was the only rider representing Goucher today in the intermediate division and she placed second in the jumping phase. She is headed to the Zone IV finals, as are Addie Jabin (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and Effie Bourgin (Savage, Md./Atholton). Jabin was awarded first place in novice flat; Bourgin placed second in advanced walk-trot-canter.
Goucher had a sixth competitor at today's regional show in Laura Parks (Apex, N.C./Raleigh Charter), who qualified in novice flat.
