On To Nationals: Brandt Places First in Open Flat

Postel Turns In Fourth-Place Performance in Open Fences
HARRISONBURG, Va. — A first-place performance in open equitation on the flat by Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) at today's IHSA Zone IV Championships means she will represent Goucher at the IHSA National Horse Show next month.
Brandt also qualified for today's competition, conducted at the Bridgewater Equestrian Center, in open equitation over fences. Riders who placed first or second today advance to nationals, which will take place May 5-8 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.
Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School), who was the Region I champion in open fences, placed fourth in that phase at today's event.
In addition to the individual competition, the riding programs which finished in first place in each of Zone IV's four regions battled today for the two berths to nationals. Bridgewater, which captured the Region II title, added the Zone IV crown by picking up 42 points, beating out St. Andrews Presbyterian from Region III by a single point. Mary Washington, which edged Goucher for the Region I title, was third with 37 points.
