FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School) and Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) established themselves as strong contenders to represent Goucher and compete in the open division at the IHSA National Horse Show with stellar performances at today's Zone IV Region I Championships at Hazelwild Farm.
Postel was awarded first place in both open equitation over fences and on the flat and Brandt, who placed seventh in open flat at nationals last year, was runner-up in both phases during today's competition. They advance, along with two of their teammates, to the Zone IV Championships, the next stop on the path to nationals.
The Zone IV Championships will take place April 7 on the Goucher campus, while the IHSA National Horse Show begins May 3 in Raleigh, N.C.
In addition to Postel and Brandt, Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) and Chaz Kellogg (Pennington, N.J./Wellesley) qualified for zones. Marcus advanced thanks to a second-place performance in the flat phase of the intermediate division; Kellogg, who was competing in the novice division, took second place in the flat phase.
Goucher's Abigail Thomas (New York City, N.Y./Rudolf Steiner) placed third today in walk-trot.
