Goucher's National Team Places Sixth Overall at ANRCs

Fink Earns Score of 75.19 for Sixth Place in Novice Division

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Goucher's three-rider national team, which consisted of Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School), Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) and Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville), finished in sixth place at the 35th annual National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship conducted by the American National Riding Commission.

The three-day event concluded today.

Some of the top intercollegiate equestrian programs in the nation showcase their most talented riders annually at ANRC nationals. The individual riders are judged and scored in four phases: a program ride including USEF hunter equitation tests, a hunter seat equitation medal course, a derby style equitation course over natural obstacles in a field, and a written test based on riding theory and equine science.

Postel posted a score of 33.94 in the program ride, seventh-highest among all of the competitors. Brandt earned the second-highest score (98.30) and Marcus placed seventh (97.00) in the written test.

A team's score in each phase is determined by adding its top two individual scores together. Goucher placed behind Sweet Briar in the written test with a score of 195.30, fourth in the program ride (66.78) and sixth in the medal phase (43.65).

The Betty Belser Memorial Trophy for the overall high point team went to Savannah Art & Design, which accumulated a team score of 176.67. Centenary was runner-up (173.13) and Virginia Intermont placed third (169.85). In fourth and fith place, immediately ahead of Goucher (150.48), were Sweet Briar (166.35) and St. Andrews (158.78).

The ANRC also offered a novice division at nationals for the second year in a row. Goucher's three entrants were Joey Fink (Pikesville, Md./The Park School), Addie Jabin (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and Chaz Kellogg (Pennington, N.J./Wellesley).

Fink placed sixth in both the program ride (30.34) and medal phase (24.00), and eighth in the derby phase (20.85) for an overall score of 75.19, good for sixth place; Jabin also made it into the top 10 with a combined score of 72.55, who landed her ninth overall.

Among the novice teams, Goucher took third place with a score of 148.04 behind Centenary (167.69) and Virginia Intermont (151.48).
