Postel Comes Away from First Show as High Point Rider

TOWSON, Md. — Five Goucher riders turned in a combined total of seven first-place performances at today's first IHSA Zone IV Region I show of the season.
By placing first in both open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat, Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School) earned the distinction of being the event's high point rider. Postel was awarded 14 points, giving her a two-point advantage over teammate Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) and Marie Farley from Christopher Newport.
Brandt, who also competed in the open division, was awarded first place in the jumping phase and second in the flat phase.
In the intermediate division, Addie Jabin (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) placed first in the jumping phase.
Joey Fink (Parkville, Md./The Park School) and Effie Bourgin (Savage, Md./Atholton) both placed first in novice equitation over fences; Fink added a first-place performance in novice flat.
Emily McCormack (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) took second place in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation; Abigail Thomas (New York City, N.Y./Rudolf Steiner) was runner-up and qualified to compete at the Zone IV-I Championships in April in walk-trot.
In the team scoring, director Patte Zumbrun's riding program picked up 42 points. Christopher Newport, George Washington and Mary Washington all finished seven points in back of Goucher with 35 points apiece.
