Fink Claims Top Honors at Season's Second Show

TOWSON, Md. — For two Goucher riders in particular, the second IHSA Zone IV Region I horse show of the season turned out to be a resounding success.
Freshman Joey Fink (Pikesville, Md./The Park School) was awarded first place in novice equitation on the flat and over fences on the way to being declared the high point rider at today's event, hosted by Mount St. Mary's but conducted on the Goucher campus.
And senior Emily McCormack (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) pointed out and became Goucher's second qualifer for the Zone IV-I Championships in April by placing first in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation.
There were two other first-place performances by Goucher riders today: Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) in open equitation on the flat and Jen Manley (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) in walk-trot equitation.
In the open division, Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School) placed second in the flat phase. Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) and Chaz Kellogg (Pennington, N.J./Wellesley) placed second in intermediate flat and novice flat, respectively.
After two shows, Postel and Brandt occupy the top two positions in the region's high point rider standings with Postel in first with 23 points and Brandt a point behind her in second place. Erica Renson from George Washington moved up to third place with 20 points.
In the region's high point team standings, Goucher, which picked 44 points today, not only held on to first place, but also expanded its lead. Goucher is at 86 points, George Washington is 14 points behind in second place with 72 points, Christopher Newport is third with 71 points and Mary Washington is fourth with 68 points.
