Goucher Extends Lead in 2011-12 Region IV-I Standings

CARROLLTON, Va. — Goucher beat out Christopher Newport for high point college by a single point at today's IHSA Zone IV Region I horse show, which was conducted at Amazing Grace Stable.
By earning 37 points today, Goucher remained atop the 2011-12 Zone IV-I high point team standings with a total of 123 points. Christopher Newport was runner-up with 36 points, while Mary Washington and William & Mary finished in a tie for third with 31 points.
Christopher Newport now trails Goucher by 16 points overall with a season total of 107 points, Mary Washington is third with 99 points and George Washington is fourth with 98.
There was a change at the upper reaches of the 2011-12 Zone IV-I high point rider standings, but it was one Goucher rider replacing another in the top position. Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) was awarded 10 points at today's show for second-place performances in open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat, pushing her season total to 32 points and giving her a four-point advantage over teammate Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School), who led the high point rider standings after the first two horse shows of the season.
Erica Renson from George Washington is third with 27 points.
In the novice division, Joey Fink (Pikesville, Md./The Park School) placed first in the flat phase and Moriah Patashnik (Seattle, Wash./The Northwest School) was second in the jumping phase.
In Callie Hodge (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Amanda Sobus (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco & Center for the Arts), Goucher had two riders earning top honors in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation. Jen Manley (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) placed second in walk-trot.
