SPARKS, Md. — Four events into the regular season, Goucher's lead in its region is now up to 56 points after yet another IHSA victory this afternoon.
Blue ribbon performances from Joey Fink (Baltimore, Md./The Park School) in both open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat led the Gophers to a 10-point win at the Towson IHSA Show. Goucher totaled 39 points as a team, comfortably ahead of the 29 earned by reserve champion George Washington.
Fink was named high point rider for the third time this fall. The senior co-captain now holds a 10-point lead in the Zone IV, Region I Cacchione Cup qualifier standings.
The Gophers finished with four first place showings overall. The other two blue ribbons came from Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) in intermediate flat and Hannah Woodson (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) in advanced walk trot canter. Co-captain Kaduk Sherpa (East Aurora, N.Y./The Park School) also registered second place results in both novice flat and novice fences.
Goucher has accumulated 157 points thus far in the team regional standings, with victories in all four IHSA shows. George Washington and Mount St. Mary's sit in a tie for second place with 101 points, while George Mason follows with 92 points.
This was the last regular season show until February 21, but the Gophers will take part in a trio of Tournament of Champion events before then, beginning with the IHSA Holiday Tournament of Champions in Coolville, Ohio, on Dec. 6. Goucher began 2014-15 with a first place showing in the Tournament of Champions Preseason Classic back on Sept. 20.
