WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A reserve champion performance from Sarah Lummis (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) in walk-trot-canter equitation moved Goucher into the top 10 overall of the Hunter Seat Collegiate Cup on day two of the IHSA National Horse Show.
Lummis earned five points towards the Gophers' team score after placing second in the event. Only Grace Wadford from St. Andrew's earned a higher score from the judges. With Lummis' showing, Goucher now sits in a tie with Findlay for ninth place in the standings.
Alison Radgowski (Northport, N.Y./Northport) competed for the Gophers earlier in the afternoon in both intermediate equitation on the flat and intermediate equitation over fences. She placed ninth in each event. The walk-trot event was also contested today with Joel Brandis (Portland, Ore./Grant) representing Goucher.
Joey Fink (Baltimore, Md./The Park School), meanwhile, joined 38 of the other top riders in the nation in the prestigious Cacchione Cup competition, and Goucher's senior co-captain distinguished himself with an eighth-place finish overall. The Cacchione Cup is awarded to the national individual Hunter Seat high point rider. Elizabeth Hay from the College of Charleston took home this year's trophy.
The team competition of this year's championships will wrap up with the open flat and open fence classes on Saturday. Fink will be participating in both events for the Gophers, and live results from the show are available here.
