LEXINGTON, Ky. — Goucher is tied with St. Andrews for fifth place with four points at the end of the first day of the Collegiate Cup Hunter Seat competition at the 2016 IHSA National Horse Show. All four points were earned by Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Calif./Renaissance Arts Academy), who placed third in novice equitation on the flat.
The show is being conducted at The Kentucky Horse Park.
The only two riders to finish ahead of Lerner in her event were Quinn Lowsky from Savannah Art & Design, who took first place, and Cecilia Lang-Ree from Stanford, the runner-up. Finishing in first was worth seven points to Lowsky's team and the second-place rider's team is awarded five points.
Three of the eight events which make up the Collegiate Cup were contested today. Alone in first place with 11 points is Centenary (N.J.). One point back in second place is Savannah A&D. Stanford and Kentucky share third place with seven points apiece. The only other riding programs with more points than Goucher are Findlay and St. Lawrence, which are tied for fourth place with six points apiece.
Anna Carmichael (Colorado Springs, Colo./William J. Palmer) missed adding to Goucher's total by one position as she placed seventh in intermediate equitation on the flat. Points are awarded to the top six riders in each event.
Kaduk Sherpa (East Aurora, N.Y./The Park School of Buffalo) represented the Gophers in novice equitation over fences.
Goucher had entrants in three individual events today: Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) in open fences, Carmichael in novice flat, and Fanny Eaton (New York, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) in individual walk-trot. Hundley was awarded fourth place in her event, while the other two riders were recognized as honorable mentions.
