Lummis Wins TOC Medal

BALTIMORE, MD. - Goucher opened up their season with a strong start at the Pre-Season Tournament of Champions hosted by our very own Gophers. The team finished the day with 27 points which resulted in a tie for fourth place with one of Mount Holyoke's teams. The tie-breaker resulted in Mount Holyoke coming away with fourth, and Goucher with fifth since Mount Holyoke had one more blue ribbon.
Sarah Lummis (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was awarded top honors in the Low Collegiate Medal out of some of the nation's top collegiate programs. Lummis competed on the flat against sixteen competitors and was called back as one of the top eight competitors to compete over fences. Lummis also won her class in walk-trot-canter.
Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and John Porter (Somers, Comm./Somers) placed second and fifth, respectively in the High Collegiate Medal. The High Medal has the same format as the Low Collegiate Medal, except that it consists of the open riders from each school.
One of Savannah College of Art and Design's teams came in first place with 45 points, followed by Randolph College in second with 38 points, and Bridgewater College in third with 30 points.
Porter competed in the open division for the team where he was awarded third in open fences and fourth open flat.
Two other riders also claimed third places over fences: Alison Radgowski (Northport,, N.Y./Northport) in intermediate fences and Rena DiPaula (Westminster,Md./Institute of Notre Dame) in novice fences.
The other two riders who added points to the Goucher score were Ari Schlossberg (Barrington, Ill./Barrington Community) who was awarded fourth in walk-trot and Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Cali./Renaissance Arts Academy) who came in fifth in novice flat.
The Gophers will host their first IHSA regional show on Saturday, October 8.
