Goucher Wins, Lengthens Lead in Zone IV Region I to 63 Hundley and Porter ride-off for High Point Rider
The Gophers won the final regular season show of the fall 2016 semester this weekend, finishing the day with 37 points.
GAITHERSBURG, MD. - The Gophers won the final regular season show of the fall 2016 semester this weekend, finishing the day with 37 points. Reserve Champion Team honors went to George Washington University with 33, and the University of Maryland and George Mason University each followed with 31.
The team was led by both junior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, MD) and first year John Porter (Somers, CT) who dominated the Open division. Each of these riders won a section of Open fences and Open flat.
Porter has earned either High Point or Reserve High Point rider honors in the last four consecutive shows.
Other first place performances came from senior Hannah Woodson (Timonium, MD) in Novice fences, and junior Rachel Brannock (Baltimore, MD) in Walk Trot. Second place performances came from senior Sarah Lummis (Westminster, MD) in Intermediate flat, and first year Annika Field (Clinton, WA) in Novice flat.
Hundley also qualified for Regional Finals in Open flat, and Porter qualified in Open fences.
The team will take a short hiatus, before traveling to the Winter Classic Tournament of Champions in Ohio on December 3.
