Equestrian Snags Five Points on Opening Day of IHSA Nationals
Lexington, Ky. - The Goucher College equestrian team currently sits in fifth place following the first day of the IHSA National Horse Show held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.
Lexington, Ky. -- The Goucher College equestrian team currently sits in fifth place following the first day of the IHSA National Horse Show held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.
Three Gophers participated on the first day, earning Goucher five points in the team standings. Centenary University currently leads the pack with 16 points after one day of competition. They are closely pursued by the Savannah College of Art and Design with 14 points. SCAD was the 2016 National Champion.
First-year Rena DiPaula (Westminster, Md.) was the first to ride for the Gophers, taking 10th in the Novice Over Fences division. She was followed by junior Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Calif.) who had Goucher's highest finish on the day with a fourth-place finish in the Novice Equitation on the Flat. Her finish earned Goucher three points, putting them on the board.
Senior Alison Radgowski (Northport, N.Y.) rounded out the Gopher's scoring for the day with a fifth-place finish in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences, giving Goucher two more points.
After earning five points on the opening day of the IHSA National Horse Show, the Gophers have tied their score from the entire weekend in 2016 - earning them 10th place overall. Goucher's highest finish in the national event was fifth place during the 2013 season where they scored a total of 13 points.
