Equestrian Takes Top Spot at American/Maryland IHSA Show; Sews Up Another Zone 4, Region 1 Title
GAITHERSBURG, Md. - It was a big day for the Goucher College equestrian team at the Other Left Hand Farm on Sunday, as the Gophers not only were the high scoring team on the day in an IHSA show hosted by American and Maryland, but the Gophers clinched the IHSA Zone 4, Region 1 Championship for the year with their performance.
GAITHERSBURG, Md. - It was a big day for the Goucher College equestrian team at the Other Left Hand Farm on Sunday, as the Gophers not only were the high scoring team on the day in an IHSA show hosted by American and Maryland, but the Gophers clinched the IHSA Zone 4, Region 1 Championship for the year with their performance.
The IHSA Zone 4, Region 1 title for the Gophers is their seventh straight dating back to 2012, as this is Goucher's ninth region title in program history.
On the day Sunday, Goucher beat out the reserve high point team and one of the hosts American University.
Individually, senior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md.) was first in open flat and second in open fences, while first-year Sarah Edmunds (Lancaster, Pa.) was third in open fences.
Elsewhere, senior Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Calif) was first in intermediate flat and second in intermediate fences, while sophomore Rena DiPaula (Westminster, Md.) was first in novice fences, qualifying to the Regional Championships in March with her performances.
Rounding out the top finishes on the day for Goucher was sophomore Courtney Sloan (Annandale, Va.), who was first in novice flat, senior Ashley Edwards (Leonardtown, Md.), who earned the top spot in walk trot canter, and senior Kyle Kihn (Boulder, Colo.), who was on top in walk trot.
The Goucher College equestrian team returns to action on Saturday, March 17, as UMBC hosts an IHSA show on the Goucher campus.
