The fifth and final 2017-18 All-Goucher First Team selection and team captain earns a fitting honor to cap her banner career as a student-athlete at Goucher. Earning the selection is senior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md.) of the equestrian team.
Earning a spot on the All-Goucher First Team for the third straight season, Hundley has now been named the Team Captain for the third straight year. In 2016, she was named the team's co-captain, while last year, she was the squad's sole captain.
In 2017-18, Hundley ended her award-winning career in style, as she was downright dominant at times in the riding ring for the Gophers.
Throughout the regular season, Hundley had at one point finished in the top spot in open flat in seven straight shows. This propelled Hundley into the end of the season where she captured Regional Championships in two events in late March - Open Flat and Open Fences.
In early April at the Zone IV Championships, Hundley led the Gophers to a third-place finish as a team, as she finished second in the Cacchione Class at the show, qualifying her for the premier Cacchione Class at the National Championships.
At the Cacchione Cup of the 2018 IHSA National Championships in early May, Hundley registered an eighth-place finish, as she went up against 24 high point riders from across the country. Throughout the competition, Hundley made history for the Goucher program, as she became the first student-athlete to win a phase during the Cacchione Cup, taking the Flat Phase.
To cap off her career, Hundley was the Reserve National Champion in the T. McDonald Scholarship Challenge, placing second in the competition.
Hundley is the fifth and final student-athlete to be named to the 2017-18 All-Goucher First Team, joining Jack Hodges and Tetsuya Ota of the men's tennis team, along with Roberto Mikse and Steph Lee of the men's golf squad.
