Equestrian Opens Season with Fifth Place Finish at Preseason Classic Tournament of Champions
LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Goucher College equestrian team kicked off their 2018-19 season this past weekend at the Preseason Classic Tournament of Champions, which was held at Randolph College.

Against a strong field, the Gophers finished fifth overall as a team, recording 28 total points. SCAD's "A" team won the event, finishing with 35 total points, as the show only featured teams that have won regional championships.
Individually, senior Wren Wakeman (Addison, Maine) kicked off her season with a first-place finish in novice flat, while junior Rena DiPaula (Westminster, Md.) was also first in intermediate fences. Elsewhere, first-year Irene Elise Powlick (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished third in Open Flat and fourth in Open Fences in the first show of her collegiate career, and senior Havah Berg (Champaign-Urbana, Ill.) was third overall in Walk Trot.
Rounding out the top performances for the Gophers in the show was junior Courtney Sloan (Annadale, Va.), who placed fourth in Intermediate Flat, while first-year Emily Axel (Davenport, Iowa) placed sixth in Low Collegiate Medal.
The Goucher College equestrian team returns to action on Sunday, as they take part in the Harford County Medal Finals on the Goucher campus.
