Equestrian Shares Victory at IHSA Show; Increases Lead in Region Standings
TOWSON, Md. - It was another successful day for the Goucher College equestrian team on Saturday, as the Gophers shared high point honors with another team in an IHSA show the program hosted on-campus.
TOWSON, Md. - It was another successful day for the Goucher College equestrian team on Saturday, as the Gophers shared high point honors with another team in an IHSA show the program hosted on-campus.
With 40 points on the afternoon, Goucher shared high point team honors with Georgetown. Finishing in third place was Maryland (34 points), followed by George Washington, Towson, and Johns Hopkins, who all finished with 27 points to place in a tie for fourth.
More importantly, the performance by the Gophers on Saturday increased Goucher's lead in the IHSA Zone IV Region One standings, as they now sit in first place with 84 points (compared to 69 points for Georgetown).
Individually on the day for the Gophers, junior Courtney Sloan (Annadale, Va.) was first in Novice Flat and third in intermediate fences, while sophomore Rachel Stockslager (New Freedom, Pa.) was first in Novice Fences. Fellow sophomore Lizzie Casa (New York, N.Y.) had a top finish in an event on the day, as did junior Cherise Madrid (Braintree, Mass.), who was first in Beginning Walk Trot Canter.
Other top performers on the day for Goucher included first-year Irene Elise Powlick (Salt Lake City, Utah), who was second in Open Fences and third in Open Flat, sophomore Emily Fewster (Towson, Md.), who was a runner-up in Intermediate Flat, and senior Havah Berg (Champaign-Urbana, Ill.), who was second in Walk Trot.
The Goucher College equestrian team returns to action on the weekend of Nov. 3-4, as they take part in the George Mason/George Washington IHSA Show at the River Chase Farm in Aldie, Va.
