Goucher Equestrian Announces Team Awards
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher equestrian team announced its team awards for the 2018-19 season.
Cherise Madrid (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) was named the Most Valuable Player after being named a National Champion in the walk trot. For the fourth time in program history, Goucher has had a rider be named a national champion. Madrid earned the honor in the individual walk trot to join an exclusive list of Goucher national champions. The junior qualified to for the IHSA National Championship after finishing at the IHSA Zone IV Reserve Champion in the walk trot. Madrid also won the walk trot at the IHSA Zone IV Region I Championships.
Courtney Sloan (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) took home the Janet McBrien Award, an award that is given out annually from the coaches to a member of the team that exemplifies leadership, sportsmanship and competitive success. Sloan was the IHSA Zone IV Region I Reserve Region Champion in the intermediate fences and the novice flat and just missed going to the national stage in the novice flat after finishing third in the novice flat at the IHSA Zone IV Championships while also placing fourth in intermediate fences.
Adeline Callihan (Keene, N.H./Making Community Connection Charter) won the Nina Tolley Ewing Memorial Fund, an honor for the student on the team who is judged to demonstrate the most outstanding leadership, scholarship, riding talent and teamwork. Callihan was the IHSA Zone IV Team Champion in the walk trot canter and placed in the Top-3 three times during the season in the walk trot canter including a pair of first-place standings.
Halle Taylor (Easton, Md./International School of Dakar) and Nadia Langer (Chevy Chase, Md./Washington Waldorf) were named the Most Improved Players on the team. Taylor finished in the Top-2 in two events during the regular season including winning the novice flat at the IHSA Maryland/American Show. Langer was in the Top-3 seven times on the year including four wins and a fourth-place standing in the Zone IV Championships in the team novice flat.
The equestrian team, who has won the IHSA Zone IV Region I title for 10-consecutive seasons, will have its 2019-20 schedule announced on Monday.
