Goucher Equestrian Finds Success At ANRC Virtual Events
BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshmen Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and Kristen Wilheim (Columbia, Md./Liberty) have made an impressive virtual debut for the Goucher College equestrian team to help the Gopher Blue Team to a. first-place standing in the ANRC Take It Forward Team Tournament after the September Kickoff.
Connell won the limit fences and finished second in limit flat while Wilheim finished at the top rider in the novice flat.
Noelle Gulley (Eldersburg, Md./Century) also completed on the Blue Team and finished third in the open/intermediate fences and fifth in the open/intermediate flat.
Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Bethel) had a nice showing in his first time wearing the Blue and Gold, finishing second in the open/intermediate fences and fourth in the open/intermediate flat to pace the Goucher Gold Team.
Lexi Mason (Lothian, Md./Southern) was second in the novice flat and Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) was fourth in both the limit flat and limit fences for the Gold Team.
The Gophers Blue Team leads the competition with 23 points while the University of the South is second with 17 points and the Goucher Gold team is third with 16 points. Florida State (16 points), St. Andrew Blue Team (12 points), St. Andrews Knights Team (8 points), Randolph-Macon (8 points) and St. Andrews White Team (6 points) also posted points in the first month of the competition.
Each team competes in the following classifications: novice flat, limit flat, limit fences, open/intermediate flat, and open/intermediate fences.
The ANRC Take it Forward College Team Tournament is a virtual team competition open to any college or university that offers a four-year or two-year degree program. A participating school may create one or more teams with students currently enrolled in their school. There will be three tournaments offered in the fall. The Top-2 best team scores will be added together to determine the To-10 team placings. The Top-10 teams are invited to compete in the Tournament Finale to be held on November 20!
There is also an individual virtual event with the ANRC called the Freestyle Challenge with three of Goucher's student-athletes participating.
Flannery Supplee (Monkton, Md./Hereford) won the introductory fences and finished second in introductory equitation while Claire Edwards (Kailua, Hawaii/Le Jardin Academy) won the introductory equitation event. Senior Kaitlin Honkofsky (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) placed fifth in the introductory equitation in her first event as a Gopher. The next round of entries for the Freestyle Challenge are due by Friday and judging will begin on Tuesday.
