Déjà Vu All Over Again: Goucher Equestrian Wins Virginia Tech Invitational For Second Time In Two Weeks
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) won a pair of events to help the Goucher College equestrian team to first place at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday. It is the second time the Gophers have won an event at in Blacksburg after winning the Virginia Tech Invitational on March 28.
Jackson took first in the open flat and intermediate fences, and was named the high point rider.
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) (open fences), Adeline Callihan (Keene, N.H./Making Community Connections Charter) (intermediate fences) and Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty) (novice flat) also took the top spot in their classification to give the Blue and Gold five wins on the afternoon.
Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) finished third in the limit flat and fourth in the limit fences.
Goucher finished the first Virginia Tech Invitational with 41 points to tie Hollins, but this time the Gophers posted 47 points to earn the top spot by three points over host Virginia Tech (44 points). Emory & Henry (39 points), Hollins (39 points), Bridgewater (38 points), Lynchburg (35 points), UNC Greensboro (32 points), High Point (30 points) and Radford (19 points) rounded out the competitors.
The Gophers will receive the results for the IHSA Spring Showcase II Online Horse Show on Monday. The team will have an entry deadline of April 20 for the ANRC Virtual Tournament Online Horse Show, and then will head to the Tournament of Champions on May 1.
