Connell Powers Goucher Equestrian In The IHSA Spring Showcase II Online Horse Show
BALTIMORE, Md. - Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) added four ribbons to his mantle at Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Spring Showcase II Online Horse Show to lead the Goucher College equestrian team to a third-place standing on Thursday .
Connell won the limit flat and the limit fences while being named the Reserve High Score Rider and the Series Champion for World Equestrian Center Limit Equitation on the Flat. Connell won the limit flat in a field of 50 riders.
Sarah Schultheis (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) finished behind Connell for the title of Series Reserve Champion for World Equestrian Center Limit Equitation on the Flat. She also placed second in the limit flat and fourth in limit fences.
Connell and Schultheis had the highest two scores in the classification sponsored by the World Equestrian Center. There were three shows, and the Gophers only participated in two of the shows, but Connell and Schultheis still came out on top.
Kaitlyn Honkofsky (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) earned the other first-place finish for the Gophers in the pre-novice flat.
Adeline Callihan (Keene, N.H./Making Community Connections Charter) was second in the intermediate flat and fifth in limit fences. Lexi Mason (Lothian, Md./Southern) (novice flat) and Kristen Wilhelm (novice flat) also registered second-place standings.
Cordelia Edwards (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) (limit flat) and Juliette Colas (Paris, France/Ecole Planchet) (limit flat) finished third in their classifications, while Celeste Fazioli (Seabrook, Texas/Clear Falls) finished fourth in the limit flat and fifth in the limit fences.
Flannery Supplee (Monkton, Md./Hereford) placed fifth in the novice flat, and Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) was sixth in both the open flat and open fences.
Goucher participated a rider short but still managed to finish third behind Savannah Art & Design and Saint Lawrence. Sweet Briar, the University of the South, and Averett finished four through six in the standings.
This event was virtual, and videos were submitted by March 31 for judging. The intent of this format is for riders to plan and execute a smooth and accurate performance.
The Blue and Gold will compete in another virtual event in its next competition. The video deadline for the ANRC Virtual Tournament Online Horse Show is April 20.
