Bio

Since her appointment as Equestrian Director in 1987, Patte Zumbrun has developed one of the top Varsity Riding teams in the Mid-Atlantic region. As both Chair of the American National Riding Commission (ANRC) and a Level V rated rider (highest level), her foundation is structured by the Forward Riding System’s philosophy and techniques, and her team competes in the ANRC Equitation Championships every year. She also holds a Level III instructor’s rating under the American Riding Instructor’s Association (highest level, ARIA) and United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Trainer’s Certification at Level I.

Zumbrun has been the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone IV, Region 1 President for four years and is Chair of the Education Committee.  Under Zumbrun’s tutelage, Goucher’s Varsity riding team captured its first IHSA Zone IV, Region I title in ’02-‘03, and repeated the win in 2004-05, 06-07 and 09-10.  The team also won the Zone IV Reserve Champion title in 2007, and earned a trip to IHSA Nationals.

As a USEF committee member, she is strongly connected to the Equestrian community at large.  Goucher riders participate in local and rated horse shows, in addition to the IHSA.

Since Zumbrun’s arrival, Goucher has built one of the region’s premier indoor riding rings.  The ring complements the adjacent outdoor ring, two jumping fields, and endless trails -- all located on Goucher’s campus located 20 minutes from downtown Baltimore.
