Goucher Men's Basketball Toppled By Johnson & Wales
ROANOKE, Va. – Goucher College lost in the Dick Leftwich Tip-off Tournament Consolation Game to Johnson & Wales in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday.
Pat Goralski (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) finished the game with 15 points and a career-best 14 rebounds to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. He shot 5-for-11 from the floor and 5 of 5 from the free throw line while also adding three assists and a steal on the afternoon. It is the senior's second double-figure point game this season and 13th of his career while it is the third time in his career that he has reached 10 boards in a game.
Dwayne Morton (Baltimore, Md./Waynesville [Mo.]) added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. The senior has reached double digits in points for the third time this season and the 38th time in his career.
The game did not start out the way Goucher would have liked after falling down 24-11 midway through the first half.
However, the Gophers used a 14-4 run to cut the margin to 28-25 with 3:52 left in the first half. Axel Seka (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Goralski each had five points in the run while Morton added four points.
The Wildcats then closed the half by scoring six of the final nine points to take a 34-28 lead going into the locker room.
In the second half with Johnson and Wales holding a 36-30 lead, the Wildcats went on an 18-7 run to extend its lead to double figures again at 54-37 with 9:27 left.
Goucher cut it to 62-57 thanks to a 20-8 run with 42 seconds left after a Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg), but the Gophers could get no closer the rest of the way.
Seka chipped in nine points while Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) added eight points after posting 15 points on Friday.
Johnson & Wales used a 34-28 first half and a 33-29 second half to earn a 67-57 win.
Goucher returns to action on Tuesday at Christendom. Game time is 7 p.m.
