Today begins the announcement of the 2017-18 All-Goucher First Team, and the first student-athlete to earn the distinction for the season is first-year Steph Lee (Manalapan, N.J.) of the men's golf team, who was one of the leaders of a young squad that made history in 2017-18.
In early May, Lee helped the Gophers win the inaugural Landmark Conference Title at Glenmaura National Golf Club outside of Scranton, as the Gophers bested the host University of Scranton to take the conference crown by three shots. On the weekend, Goucher finished with a two-day score of 649 (315-334).
In the tournament, Lee finished third overall to earn All-Landmark Conference First Team honors. In round one, Lee fired a 77 to share the lead, but despite posting an 83 on Sunday still placed in the top three to clinch the Landmark title for the Gophers.
The win in the Landmark Championship for Goucher was historic for several reasons.
First, the Gophers won the Landmark title in their first year as an intercollegiate program, sporting a starting lineup of all first-year student-athletes. With the win, Goucher then moved on to the 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Greensboro, N.C., where they finished 35th as a team at the event.
On the season, Lee posted a scoring average of 82 in 16 rounds played, with his low round of 70 being carded at Glenmaura in the First Round of the Glenmaura National College Invite on Apr. 22.
The rest of the All-Goucher First Team will be announced throughout the week, culminating with the announcement of the All-Goucher Team Captain and Coach of the Year on Friday.
