Gonzalez Places Sixth At McDaniel Spring Invitational For Goucher Men's Golf
ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Julian Gonzalez (Heredia, Costa Rica/Berkeley Academy) finished sixth to lead Goucher College to a fourth-place standing at the McDaniel Men's Golf Spring Invitational on Sunday.
Gonzalez and the Gophers came into the final round in third place and two strokes behind the leaders. The freshman posted a two-over par round of in the first round and then shot a 79 in the second round to finish with a two-round score of 153, two strokes behind the medalist. Gonzalez has placed in the Top-10 in all six events in his collegiate career, but this marked the first time he has finished outside the Top-3.
As a team, Goucher registered a first round score of 306 and was two strokes behind the leader. The Gophers shot a 324 in a gusty second round to finished in fourth place with a score of 630, 11 strokes behind McDaniel (619) and three strokes behind Gettysburg (627) and Lynchburg (627) for second place.
Roberto Mikse (Fort Worth, Texas/Jim McClean Junior Academy) (12th place, 157), Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy) (15th place, 158), Nicholas Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) (28th place, 162) and Joe Burns (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) (68th place, 172) rounded out the Goucher competitors.
The Gophers return to action at the Towson Spring Invitational at the Prospect Bay Country Club in Graysonville, Md., on Saturday.
