Shalamanov Touches First in 200 Free, 100 Breast
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) produced the fastest times in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke today, but the Gophers were handed a 123-82 setback by Catholic in the second dual meet of the season for both Landmark Conference teams.

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) produced the fastest times in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke today, but the Gophers were handed a 123-82 setback by Catholic in the second dual meet of the season for both Landmark Conference teams.
Shalamanov completed the 200 free in 1:51.94 and the 100 breast in 1:03.82 as the Gophers (0-2, 0-2 Landmark) outscored the Cardinals (1-1, 1-0 Landmark), 22-16, in those two events.
Goucher's only other first-place performance in an individual event was by Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) in the 500 free where he was clocked at 5:15.98. Williams was also runner-up in the 1,000 free (10:52.08).
The following swimmers also finished in second place in at least one individual event for the Gophers: Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) in the 50 free (:23.06) and 100 free (:51.41), Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) in the 200 individual medley (2:09.49) and 100 backstroke (:56.35) and Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) in the 100 butterfly (56.31).
Goucher picked up 11 points in the opening event of the meet when the entry of Brower, Shalamanov, Leonard and Nicko March (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) took first place in the 400 medley relay with its time of 4:01.26, beating out Catholic's top entry by 61-hundredths of a second.
