Gophers Rule Relays, Take 126-79 Hit from Seahawks
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Goucher outscored St. Mary's (Md.), 24-10, in the two relay events, but the Gophers took first place in only a pair of individual events as the Seahawks registered a 126-79 victory over head coach Thomas Till's squad this afternoon.
First-Place Efforts by Brower in 1000, McFadden in 50 Free

Goucher's entry of Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton), Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi), Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) completed the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.33, just 55-hundredths of a second in front of a St. Mary's foursome.
In the closing event, the same four swimmers turned in a combined time of 1:31.22 to take first place in the 200 freestyle relay and pick up 11 points for the Gophers (0-3).
In between the two relays, Goucher's only first-place performances came from Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) in the 1000 free and McFadden in the 50 free. Brower's winning time in the 1000 was 10:29.86; McFadden was clocked at :23.06 in the 50.
Leonard was runner-up in the 100 butterfly (:55.30), as were Daniel Montoya (Chihuahua, Mexico/ITESM Campus Chihuahua) in the 100 free (:52.12) and Williams in the 100 backstroke (:56.58).
The Seahawks (5-0) pulled off 1-2 finishes in the 200 free, the 200 individual medley, the 500 free and the 100 breaststroke.
