MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) was recognized today as the Landmark Conference's Male Swimmer of the Week for Nov. 7-13.
In Saturday's Landmark Conference meet against Scranton, Brower placed first in both backstroke events. Only two individuals in the history of Goucher's men's swimming program have turned in faster times in the 200-yard back than the 2:02.51 that the freshman recorded against the Royals, and his winning time of :56.36 in the 100 back makes him the fourth-fastest individual in that event in program history.
His time in the 200 back is also the fastest by a Landmark Conference swimmer so far during the 2011-12 season.
Brower also swam the opening leg of Goucher's entry in the 200-yard medley relay which was clocked at 1:39.46, shaving more than 4.7 seconds off the former pool record of 1:44.20 established by four Washington (Md.) swimmers on Jan. 18, 2005.
