Gophers Bow Despite Richter's Three First-Place Efforts

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Goucher's Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) finished first in the 200-meter freestyle and both butterfly events today, but the Gophers still came up short against Scranton, which was picked to wind up in third place in the Landmark Conference according to a 2012-13 preseason poll.
The Royals prevailed 146-101.
The meet began with one of Goucher's entries in the 200-meter medley relay taking first place. The foursome of Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis), Brian Cha (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lakeridge), Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) completed the event in 1:52.19, beating a Scranton entry by 7-hundredths of a second.
The first of Morgan Richter's three first-place performances came in the 200 free where he was clocked at 2:05.52. He also touched first in the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.75) and the 200 fly (2:17.84).
The Gophers (0-4, 0-3 Landmark) finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with Brower placing first (1:01.88) and Colin Richter following in second (1:02.19).
Colin Richter posted the fastest time (2:18.98) in the 200 individual medley.
Cha placed second in the 100 free (:54.87) and Brower was runner-up in the 200 back (2:15.83).
The Royals (5-1, 2-0 Landmark) produced both the winner and the runner-up in five individual events.
