Six First Place Finishes Not Enough for Gophers in Loss
SCRANTON, Pa. — Colin Richter and Morgan Richter each continued their scintillating starts to the season, with the two brothers combining for five first place finishes, but it was not enough to lift Goucher past Scranton, as the Royals came away with a 153-104 victory at the Byron Recreation Complex.
SCRANTON, Pa. — Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) and Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) each continued their scintillating starts to the season, with the two brothers combining for five first place finishes, but it was not enough to lift Goucher past Scranton, as the Royals came away with a 153-104 victory at the Byron Recreation Complex.
Colin Richter won all three of his individual events, while Morgan Richter picked up two individual wins and a second place result in his events. Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) added a sixth first place finish for the Gophers (0-3, 0-2 Landmark).
Morgan Richter grabbed the first victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle, as his time of 1:47.63 was nearly seven seconds faster than Christopher Conway from Scranton (4-1, 1-0 Landmark) in second place. Morgan's other triumph came in the 200 butterfly (2:00.86), while he registered a second-place result in 100 fly, finishing only six-tenths of a second behind Scranton's Adrian Silva with a time of 53.80.
Colin Richter picked up wins in the 100 backstroke (57.10), the 200 back (2:04.69) and the 200 individual medley (2:06.80). He has now won six individual events in Goucher's first three meets of the season.
Davis picked up his third victory in the 50 free this season with a time of 22.81. He out-touched Grant Owens from Scranton by six-hundredths of a second.
In his first time racing the 1000 free at Goucher, Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) recorded a third-place finish for the Gophers, and his time of 11:15.87 was only 0.35 behind Connor Donnelly for second place. Dean Silverman (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) added a third-place result in the 500 free after he completed the event in 5:30.62.
Goucher continues its season next Saturday with a home tri-meet against Arcadia and Gallaudet. The meet begins at 1 p.m. from the von Borries Aquatic Center.
