Gophers Top All Competitors at Frostburg Quad Meet

Goucher defeated the hosting Bobcats (139-66), Hood (110-95) and Stevenson (171-7) to begin its season with a 3-0 record.
Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) had a pair of individual first place showings for the Gophers, and he was also on Goucher's 200 freestyle relay-winning team. Richter bested his second place competitor by nearly four seconds in the 200 free, and he touched in at 1:01.65 to top the field in the 100 backstroke. He teamed with Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends), Dalton Delp (Summerville, S.C./Ashley Ridge) and Brian Cha (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lakeridge) to post a time of 1:42.27 in the 200 free relay.
The Gophers had additional first place results from Davis and Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) to add to their point total. Davis (24.68) claimed first in the 50 free, while Richter (1:00.14) came out on top in the 100 butterfly. Richter also placed second in the 800 free (9:22.98) and the 400 free (4:40.00) and Davis added a second place result in the 100 free (55.77).
Goucher ended the afternoon with victories in five of the 11 contested events. Jerel McCord (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) chipped in a pair of third place showings in both the 800 free (9:53.44) and 100 fly (1:04.71).
With their three wins today, the Gophers matched their win total from a 2013-14 season which saw them finish with a 3-6 mark in dual meets.
Goucher returns to action with a tri-meet next week at St. Mary's (Md.). The Gophers will take on the hosting Seahawks and Marymount at the meet, which begins at 1 p.m.
