Jackson Finishes Seventh In 50 Free To Pace Goucher Swimming After First Day Of Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships
GERMANTOWN, Md. – Ila Jackson (Columbia, Md./Homeschooled) finished seventh in the 50 free to pace the Goucher College swimming team at the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday.
Jackson shaved over a second from her seed time to get into the "A" finals with an eighth-place standing and a time of 25.09 in the preliminaries during the morning session. The senior then posted a time of 25.14 in the final to move up a spot from the preliminary round to open her final collegiate championship with a seventh-place finish.
Jackson also swam the anchor leg of the sixth place 200-free relay team (1:44.76) and was joined by Jamie Damm (Middletown, Del./Middletown), Camilla Civiello (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and Kathryn Shannon (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Louisville). Hallie Stewart (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) joined Jackson, Shannon Civello to place eighth in the 400-medley relay (4:26.05).
The men's 400-medley relay team of Jackson Penner (Newille, Pa./Big Spring), Ryan Freeburg (Middletown, Del./Middletown), Hugh MacCovery (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) and Eli Gang (Highland Park, N.J./Goulda Och Academy) finished sixth (3:51.80) to wrap up the first night of the championships. Gang, Marcus Montisano (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Freeburg and Penner placed seventh (1:32.41) in the 200-free relay to open the evening session.
Also on the women's side in the morning session, Stewart (26th place, 5:39.29), Shannon (30th place, 5:43.72), Caitlin Cunningham (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (33rd place, 5:47.01) and Catherine Yost (Brattleboro, Vermont/Brattleboro Union) (36th place, 5:54.93) each raced in the 500 free preliminaries.
Samantha Epworth (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista (28th place, 2:53.21) participated in the 200 IM preliminaries in the morning.
Damm (20th place, 26.55), Civello (21st place, 26.60), Maddie Chism (Erie, Colo./Centarus) (29th place, 28.86), Mikaela Bichler (Fair Lawn, N.J./Homeschooled) (30th place, 29.62), Briana Jones (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) (32nd place, 30.27), Makeyla Hayes (Boston, Mass./Boston Trinity) (33rd place, 31.73), Megan Wells (34th place, 31.84) and Sara Healy (35th place, 33.32) all participated in the 50 free preliminaries.
For the men in the morning session, MacConvery missed swimming in the "B" final by three spots, finishing in 19th place (2:09.33) in the preliminaries.
Gang (25th place, 23.54), Freeburg (27th place, 23.59), Montisano (28th place, 24.37), Andrew Ackerman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) (32nd place, 25.60), Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) (33th place, 25.60), Liam McDonald (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) (35th place, 27.94), Sean Swanson (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) (36th place, 28.16) all competed in the 50 free preliminaries.
The Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships continues on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The events include the 200-medley relay, the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and the 800-free relay.
