Jackson Concludes Her Collegiate Swimming Career With Best Finishes In 2019 Landmark Conference Championships For Goucher
GERMANTOWN, Md. - Ila Jackson (Columbia, Md./Homeschooled) made sure she was busy during her final Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships The senior advanced to three "A" finals and participated in four relay events. Jackson saved the best individual finish for last with a sixth-place standing in the 100 free to lead Goucher College swimming on the final day of the three-day event on Sunday.
For the third-straight night, Jackson swam in an "A" final to finish her collegiate career for the Gophers. She finished with her best individual finish of the 2019 championships with a sixth-place standing in the 100 free with a time of 55.17, nearly matching the time from the morning of 55.06. The senior finished seventh in the 50 free with a time of 25.14 on Friday and eighth in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.96 on Saturday.
Hugh MacConvery (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) reached his second "A" final of the championship in the 200 fly after placing eighth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.68 on Saturday. MacConvery finished eighth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.65 after recording a preliminary time of 2:02.69.
The women's 400-free relay team of Camilla Civiello (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely), Kathryn Shannon (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Louisville), Hallie Stewart (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) and Jackson finished fifth with a time of 3:48.75 to post its best relay finish in the three days of competition.
The men's 400-free relay team of Eli Gang (Highland Park, N.J./Goulda Och Academy), Marcus Montisano (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Ryan Freeburg (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and Jackson Penner (Newille, Pa./Big Spring) placed seventh with a time of 3:26.05 in the final event of the championships.
Freeburg and Penner participated in their second "B" final in the last two days. Penner placed 11th in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.12 and Freeburg was 16th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.09 on Saturday. Freeburg placed 10 in the 200 breast with a time of 2:15.98, a time that would put him in the "A" final if he posted that time in the morning session. He bested his preliminary time in the event by almost five seconds (2:20.06). Penner added a 14th-place finish on Sunday in the 100 free "B" final after finishing sixth in the "B" final with a time of 49.45, posting a nearly identical time from the preliminaries.
Caitlin Cunningham (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished 21st in the 1650 free (20:17.38).
In the morning session for the men, Gang (21st place, 51.90), Andrew Ackerman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) (25th place, 54.31), Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) (29th place, 57.69), Liam McDonald (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) (32nd place, 1:04.57) and Sean Swanson (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) (33th place, 1:05.25) each swam in the 100 free preliminaries while Montisano (18th place, 2:29.50) missed a spot in the night swim of the 200 breast by two spots.
For the women in the preliminaries, Stewart (18th place, 2:24.42) and Mikaela Bichler (Fair Lawn, N.J./Homeschooled) (26th place, 2:57.48) participated in the 200 back while Civiello (19th place, 57.97), Zoe Brown (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) (22nd place, 59.07), Maddie Chism (Erie, Colo./Centaurus) (29th place, 1:03.45), Briana Jones (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) (31st place, 1:11.75), Makeyla Hayes (Boston, Mass./ (32nd place, 1:11.75), and Megan Wells (33rd place, 1:12.88) raced in the 100 free in the morning session.
In the 200 breast preliminaries, Catey Yost (Brattleboro, Vermont/Brattleboro Union) (21st place, 3:05.62) and Sara Healy (22nd place, 3:37.45) raced for Goucher and Shannon (20th place, 2:42.93) and Samantha Epworth (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) (21st place, 3:01.34) also swam in the 200 fly.
It was the final collegiate meet for Brown, Epworth, Jacksons and Kristin Sullivan (Topsham, Maine/Mount Arrat) on the women's side and Gang on the men's team.
