Seniors Help Serve Up Goucher Men's Tennis Win At Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Seniors Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) each won a pair of matches to lift Goucher College past Elizabethtown College 9-0 in Landmark Conference men's tennis action on Saturday.
Diehl and Meekins are hoping to end their career as a four-time Landmark Conference champion and the duo helped the Gophers to its third-straight conference win to take another step toward that goal.
Diehl teamed up with Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C./The George School) and moved up one spot to the No. 1 doubles spot and earned an 8-2 win. Diehl also won his No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Meekins and Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) posted a clean match at No. 3 with an 8-0 victory and then Meekins won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) and Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 2 singles.
Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep), the current Landmark Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, won his match at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Mullinix moved up a spot to No. 2 singles to earn a 6-0, 6-1 win and Dumas jumped to No. 3 for a 6-0, 6-0 victory while Kane played at No. 4 singles to earn a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
Goucher returns to action at Moravian College on Sunday. Match time is 1 p.m.
