Penner Wins Three Events To Pace Goucher Swimming In Season Opener At Marymount
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Jackson Penner (Newille, Pa./Big Spring) won three events while Jacy MacConvery (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview), Camilla Civiello (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely), Jamie Damm (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and Kathryn Shannon (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Louisville) also won an event to pace the Goucher College swimming team at a tri-match with Marymount and Gallaudet on Saturday.
Penner didn't spend much time in the pool, but made sure that he was the fastest man in the pool when he was in the water. Penner won the 50 back with a time of 28.69, the 50 free with a time of 23.77 and the 100 free with a time of 52.40.
Also on the men's side, MacConvery won the 1000 free with a time of 11:55.14. On the women's side, Shannon won the 1000 free with a time of 12:08.33 while Damm won the 50 back with a time of 32.12 and Civiello took first in the 500 free with a time of 6:05.20.
Shannon also finished second in the 100 back (1:08.48) and Damm was second in both the 100 free (1:02.67) and the 100 IM (1:13.87). Civiello was third in the 50 free (29.38) while MacConvery placed third in the 100 fly (1:00.19).
Alejandra Berry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn./Amity) finished second in the 100 fly (1:06.94) and in the 50 fly (29.81) while Samantha Kaminsky (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) was second in the 500 free (6:17.59) and third in both the 200 free (2:15.82) and the 100 free (1:03.43).
Hallie Stewart (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) placed second in the 200 free (2:15.06) and third in the 100 IM (1:14.36) while Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley) was second in the 50 free (27.26) and third in the 100 breast (1:24.93). Caitlin Cunningham (Shwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (1000 free, 13:16.46) and Jasmine Clare (Cape Coral, Fla./North Fort Myers) (50 breast, 42.50) both recorded third-place standings.
Ryan Freeburg (Middletown, Del./Middletown) finished second in the 50 breast (38.83) and in the 100 breast (1:05.42) while Connor Lawrence was second in the 500 free (6:17.50). Marcus Montisano placed third in both the 50 breast (44.68) and the 100 breast (1:11.49) while Richard Bialik (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) was third in the 200 free (2:04.97) and Victor Garcia-Lara (Millersville, Md.) finished third in the 500 free (6:29.47).
The men's relay teams both finished second with Penner, Montisano, Freeburg and Lawrence competing in the 200-medley relay (1:53.38) while Garcia-Lara, Lawrence, Montisano and MacConvery raced in the 200-free relay (2:11.67).
On the women's side, Berry-Ruiz, Shannon, Damm and Civiello finished second in the 200-free relay (1:50.96) while Stewart, Wood, Berry-Ruiz and Civiello placed third in the 200-medley relay (2:07.51).
The men's team defeated Gallaudet 125-114 and lost to Marymount 139-94 while the Gopher women defeated Gallaudet 209-48 and fell to Marymount 133.50-123.50.
The Goucher swimming team returns to action on October 26 at Elizabethtown College along with Immaculata University. Start time is 1 p.m.
