Freeburg and Wood Shine in Goucher's First Home Meet
Baltimore, Md. -- Goucher's first home swim meet was electric as cheers and guests filled the Von Berries Aquatic Center on Saturday. Ryan Freeburg (Middletown, Del./Middletown) led the Gophers with his trifecta of finishes over Catholic University. Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley) led the women with a pair of top three finishes in the Landmark Conference match-up.
Freeburg placed first in the 200 breast with a winning time of 2:23.87. He had his personal best time of 2:12.55 in the 200 IM while finishing second. Freeburg completes the trifecta with a third-place finish in the 100 breast (1:04.57).
Victor Garcia-Lara (Millersville, Md.) also had a personal best in the 1000 free with a time of 12:31.93. Marcus Montisano (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) joins the personal best club with his 5:51.51, third-place finish in the 500 free.
Jackson Penner (Newille, Pa./Big Spring) and Jacy MacConvery (Liburn, Ga./Parkview) each placed second in their events. Penner came in at 23.35 in the 50 free, a season best, while MacConvery swam in 2:07.76 in the 200 fly.
On the women's side, Wood had a season best time of 27.02 in the 50 free. This earned her second-place. She paired it with a third-place finish in the 100 free (1:00.51). Alejandra Barry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn./Amity) placed second in the 200 and 100 fly. Her 2:38.63 in the 200 was a personal best and she finished the 100 in 1:07.35.
Wood, along with Jamie Damm (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Kathryn Shannon (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Louisville), and Camilla Civiello (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) placed second in the 200 free relay in 1:49.30.
Civiello and Shannon had their own individual triumphs. Civiello with her third place finish in the 200 free (2:14.72). Shannon with her two third place finishes in the 1000 free and 200 back (12:02.67, 2:25.71). Freshman, Sammy Kaminkski (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) recorded a season best time of 6:09.00 in the 500 free, earning the third-place spot.
None the less, the Goucher women fell to the Cardinals 305.7 to 426.6. The men also lost to Catholic by a score of 309.7 to 413.9.
The Gophers are home again next Saturday, November 23. They are set to take on Salisbury at 1 p.m.
