Goucher Swim Team Senior Day Splashed by Susquehanna
Baltimore, Md. – The Goucher Swim team had their last home meet of the season which doubled as Senior Day. The team fought hard against Susquehanna on Friday afternoon. The men and women's teams each had two first place finishes in this Landmark Conference match.
For the boys, Ryan Freeburg (Middletown, Del./Middletown) brought home the gold in the 50 free. His time was 24.03. Marcus Mantisano (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) also garnered first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.75. Senior Jacy MacConvery (Liburn, Ga./Parkview) rounded out the boys with a personal best time. He swam 58.37 in the 100 fly.
On the girls' side, Camilla Civiello (North Yarmouth, Me./Greely) made the most of her senior day by winning the 100 free. Her time was 1:01.19. Kathryn Shannon (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Louisville) joins Civiello with a first-place win of her own. Shannon swam 5:50.90 in the 500 free. She also placed third in the 200 free with a time of 2:11.65.
Alejandra Barry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn./Amity) and Jaime Damm (Middletown, Md./Middletown) add a couple of their own top finishes. Barry-Ruiz placed second in the 100 fly. Her time was 1:07.35. In the 50 free, she swam 28.59 to finish third. Damm was second in the 100 back with a time of 1:09.33. This was a season best. Her third-place finish in the 200 IM was also a season best. Her time was 2:36.57.
In addition, Caitlin Cunningham (Schwenskville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) swam her own season best time. This came in the 1000 free when her time of 13:03.57 gained her third place. The 100 breast had two positives for the Gophers. Jasmine Clare (Cape Coral, Fla./North Fort Myers) placed third with a time of 1:30.79. Megan Wells (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham and Monson Academy) topped off her senior day with a personal best time. She swam 1:39.81 to get fourth place.
Despite the first place finishes and personal/season best times, the men and women fell to the Susquehanna River Hawks. The Gopher men were close, but lost 279.1 - 407.0. The Gopher women fell by a score of 312.6 to 401.0.
The Goucher College Swim Team is back in the pool on Saturday January 25 at Drew in another Landmark Conference meet-up. It will start at 1 pm. This will be their last meet before the Landmark Conference Championships in February.
