Track and Field Women's Team with Strong Finishes at DuCharme
Carlisle, Pa. – This weekend, the track program came full circle in the DuCharme Invitational. The Goucher Track and Field program began 20 years ago and the DuCharme meet was the first meet that the team competed in. 20 years later, the gophers returned to Carlisle, Pennsylvania to make their mark.
The women's team was highlighted by several athletes. The best finish of the day was by Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa. / Northeastern). She finished 4th in the 55m with a time of 7.89. La Court Ruiz also participated in the long jump. In that event, she placed 16 by reaching the 3.99m mark after fouling the first two rounds.
Sydney Smith (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason HS) was also in the event, reaching 6th place. Smith got to the 4.59m mark after she got to 4.56, 4.53, and 4.58 in the first, second, and fourth rounds respectively.
The last competitor for the Gophers was Zoe Mitchener. In the 55 Hurdles, Mitchener placed 10th with a time of 12.34. In addition, her time for the 200m was 39.62, good for 16th place.
The team's hard work and efforts racked up 13 points and an 8th place finish.
The track and field squad will compete at the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet is on Saturday, February 29 at the Garrett Center Field House in Selingrove, Pennsylvania.
