MADISON, N.J. — Been there. Done that. Goucher's Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) was named a second-team forward on the 2009-10 All-Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Team, a repeat honor from a year ago when she was as a junior.

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher recorded its first victory over Catholic in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center since the 2003-04 season when the Gophers brought down the curtain on their 2009-10 campaign by turning back the Cardinals, 71-67, in Landmark Conference action this evening.

Gophers Stage Determined Rally, Suffer 13-Point Setback

TOWSON, Md. — Twenty points down at the end of the first half wasn't where Goucher wanted to be this evening, especially since the opponent was nationally ranked Moravian. But the Gophers fought back in the second half and got as close as nine points on three separate occasions before the Greyhounds were able to secure a 71-58 Landmark Conference victory in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.

Gophers Keep from Being Passed in Standings by Mariners

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — Elizabeth von Ende (Leawood, Kan./American Hebrew Academy) and Kiara Doughty (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) scored 14 points apiece and Leia Roberts-Brown (Capitol Heights, Md./Archbishop Carroll), who was in Goucher's starting lineup for the first time this season, added 11 points as the Gophers defeated the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 58-47, in Landmark Conference action this evening.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame), who went into the game needing 23 points to become the ninth player in the history of Goucher's women's basketball program to reach 1,000 points during her career, made three free throws in the opening 3:23 this evening to provide the Gophers with a 3-0 lead over Juniata.

Lady Royals Seize Control at Outset of Second Half

SCRANTON, Pa. — Goucher appeared poised to make the most of having to face a second nationally ranked opponent in less than 24 hours when it opened up a 23-15 lead over Scranton this afternoon. Even when the Royals went on a 21-6 run over the final 6:50 of the first half, the Gophers were still within striking distance — down by just seven points — at the break.

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) created the seventh tie of this afternoon's Landmark Conference game in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy when she converted a layup with 2:13 left to play. Thirty-two seconds later, the senior forward put the Gophers ahead 49-48 when she canned a free throw.

TOWSON, Md. — Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) became only the third player in the history of Goucher's women's basketball program to surpass 700 rebounds in her career, but there was little else for the Gophers or their fans to celebrate this evening because the senior forward achieved her milestone in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center during a 69-42 Landmark Conference setback to Juniata.

TOWSON, Md. — Only one point separated Goucher and Susquehanna after Kiara Doughty (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) got a layup to drop with 1:52 left to play tonight, but the Crusaders managed to score the final four points of the contest to emerge with a 55-50 Landmark Conference triumph over the Gophers.

Another Long Flight Results in Second Loss to Owls

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Just as it was two seasons ago in the inaugural meeting between the two teams, Goucher was a long way from home when it took on Keene St. today at the Grand Canyon Classic. The Owls, who defeated the Gophers, 55-49, in the championship game of the 2008 Purple & Gold Poet Classic in Whittier, Calif., were victorious over head coach Didi Cotton's squad once again, 68-44.
