Things Begin to Unravel for Gophers in Second Half

Kollock Finishes as Goucher's Only Double-Digit Scorer

TOWSON, Md. — Until Goucher allowed Moravian to score the final six points of the first half, the Gophers and Greyhounds were never separated by more than four points in this evening's Landmark Conference game played in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center. Cassandra Phillips' successful jumper with :09 showing on the clock allowed the visitors to head to their locker room up 23-17.

A layup by Elizabeth von Ende (Leawood, Kan./American Hebrew Academy) accounted for the first two points of the second half as Goucher closed to within 23-19, but that's when it all began to unravel for the Gophers. They went the next 4:45 without adding a single point to their total, while Moravian went on a run of 13 consecutive points, opening a 36-19 advantage on a basket by Alexis Wright.

After that the Gophers were never able to knock their deficit down to single digits and the Greyhounds went on to record a 62-44 victory.

The Gophers (5-14, 1-7 Landmark Conference) held leads on two separate occasions in the opening period, both times on short jumpers by TaQuasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco). Lambert tallied the opening two points of the contest off an assist from Precious Kollock (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) and later put her team ahead 14-13 by canning another jumper in the paint.

When Shante Atkinson (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) added the free throw to complete a three-point play with 2:59 remaining before halftime, the score was tied at 17-17, but the Gophers went 0-for-4 from the field the remainder of the period.

The Greyhounds (12-7, 5-3 Landmark) took their biggest lead of the contest on a layup by Amanda Kreuder that made the score 62-43 with 1:26 left to play.

Three starters shared scoring honors for Moravian with 13 points apiece: Alexandra Blair, Kreuder and Wright. Wright and Blair both registered double-doubles by pulling down 18 and 12 rebounds, respectively.

Kollock finished with 11 points and was Goucher's only double-digit scorer. Lambert added nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Neither team made a 3-point field goal the entire contest; they were a combined 0-for-11 on 3-point attempts. The last time both Goucher and its opponent failed to make a 3-point basket in a game was against Salisbury on Feb. 3, 2000, when the Gophers were 0-for-4 and the Sea Gulls missed their only try.
