BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Aided by a 42 to 15 edge in free throw attempts, Moravian stayed undefeated in conference play, topping Goucher 77-59.
Moravian (18-2, 9-0 Landmark) was led by last year's Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, Alexis Wright. The sophomore tallied a team-high 14 points, eight of which came from the line, while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds and blocking five shots.
The first four points of the game were scored by Goucher (5-13, 1-7 Landmark), as the Gophers pulled ahead early. A 7-0 run in response gave the Greyhounds the lead, which it would never relinquish.
The Gophers pulled within two at 14-12 on an India Perkins (Brentwood, Md./Bladensburg) jumper, but were shut out over the next 7:06. During that span, the Greyhounds took control with a 19-0 run.
Moravian's lead grew to as much as 29 in the second half, but a 22-8 run put the Gophers back within striking distance with just under four minutes to play.
Time ran out on Goucher's hopes, however, as the Moravian lead was too large to overcome.
Precious Kollock (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) was the game's top scorer at 16, with Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie) close behind at 13.
Huff and TaQuasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco) each had nine rebounds to share the game-high honors.
Moravian scored 37 of its points off of Goucher's 26 turnovers. The Greyhounds were 31-of-42 from the free throw line, while the Gophers hit on 11 of their 15 attempts.
