BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Another day. Another well-deserved honor for Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie), the newest member of the Goucher women's basketball team's "1,000-Point Club."
One day after being named Women's Basketball Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for January 27-February 2, Huff was recognized by the web site D3hoops.com, which placed the senior guard on its Team of the Week presented by Scoutware for the same seven-day period.
Now in its 17th season, the Team of the Week is D3hoops.com's honor roll containing the nation's top Division III women's basketball players at each of the five positions from the previous week.
Huff earned the honor after averaging 31.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games for the Gophers. She knocked down 36 points, the single-game high by a player from the Landmark Conference in 2013-14, against Catholic and came back three nights later with a 27-point effort against Moravian. The first points she tallied against the Greyhounds were from a made 3-point field goal less than three minutes into the contest and they raised her career total to exactly 1,000 points, making her the 10th female player in school history to attain that milestone.
She landed seven attempts from 3-point range against the Cardinals, which ties the conference's single-game record for made 3-point field goals by an individual, established by Rebecca Grimes from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy during the 2009-10 season and matched by Jennifer Mateo from Drew in 2012-13.
She made five more 3-pointers in the Moravian game and is now Goucher's all-time leader with 120 during her four seasons with the Gophers.
