TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie), who led the Landmark Conference in 3-pointers made and was second overall in points per game, has been rewarded by the league's coaches with a second-team all-conference selection. She becomes the first Gopher to be recognized by the conference since Amber Smith earned second-team honors in 2009-10.
Huff was an offensive force throughout the season, scoring in double figures in 19 of the 23 games she played, including 12 of 14 conference matchups. Overall, the senior guard averaged 16.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, both of which were team highs. Only Scranton's Meredith Mesaris, a first-team all-conference selection, averaged more points per game at 18.7, and no player in the Landmark made more than Huff's 66 shots from beyond the arc.
"Sharnell truly had a fantastic year for our program," head coach Didi Cotton said. "It's nice to know that the coaches respect players who come out and are consistently effective, regardless of the win-loss record. That's a credit to Sharnell as well, that she was able to get past the overall team performance and still be consistent night-in and night-out."
Huff's strongest performance this season came at Catholic on Jan. 29, when she set conference season highs in points (36) and made 3-pointers (7). She followed up that effort with a 27-point showing against Moravian, surpassing the 1,000 point barrier for her career and setting a new program record for most career 3-pointers. Huff finished her four years at Goucher with 1,130 points, tied with Kim Rogers for seventh-most all-time, and 142 made 3's.
Catholic grabbed two of the conference's four major awards, with Emily Grabiak named Player of the Year while Matt Donahue earned Coach of the Year recognition. Kate McDonald from Juniata was recognized as the Landmark Defensive Player of the Year and Sarah Payonk from conference-champion Scranton was named Rookie of the Year.
A total of six players each were listed on the first and second all-Landmark teams, with seven of eight schools in the conference represented at least once.
