2015-16 News

TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference, which is in its ninth year of competition, today recognized 309 student-athletes for their academic accomplishments by placing them on the Winter 2015-16 Academic Honor Roll. Thirty-one of the honorees are from Goucher.

TOWSON, Md. — Six student-athletes from Goucher were among the 47 named today to the Landmark Conference's Winter 2016 All-Sportsmanship Team.

TOWSON, Md. — Amaka Ezeani (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch), one of five seniors on Goucher's 2015-16 roster playing the final games of their collegiate careers, turned in a 22-point, 11-rebound performance in leading the Gophers to a 75-54 triumph over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a Landmark Conference contest played this afternoon.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Despite an early deficit, Goucher played side-by-side with Susquehanna until the opening minutes of the final quarter. The Crusaders opened up the fourth with a 10-0 run, and never looked back, as Patrick Daniel's squad fell 65-51 in Landmark Conference action.

SCRANTON, Pa. — A different Goucher team stepped foot in the John Long Center this afternoon. One with passion and a willingness to get better, something that didn't show in the 72-37 loss just weeks ago to this very same Scranton team. Patrick Daniel's squad played stout defense and matched the No. 4 team in the nation's every move in the first half. Unfortunately, the result was similar, as the Gophers were outscored 40-29 in the final 20 minutes of action, leading to a 69-51 defeat.

TOWSON, Md. — An opportunity arose late in the fourth quarter as Goucher was staring at a 52-47 deficit. A technical foul was called by Melissa Errico which gave Patrick Daniel's squad two free throws and possession of the ball. Briana Bull (Baltimore, Md./Owings Mills) notched one of the two free throws and seconds later, the Gophers turned the ball over, which led to a made 3-point shot by Jayni Webster on the other end.

TOWSON, Md. — It wasn't until the fourth quarter this afternoon that Goucher saw a glimpse of the same team that prevailed by 22 points the first time the Gophers faced Elizabethtown this season back on Jan. 16.

TOWSON, Md. — After averaging 17 points per contest in Goucher's three Landmark Conference victories, Amaka Ezeani (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) today was named the conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for January 25-31.

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — Goucher's 54-44 triumph over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy today marked the first-time in program history that a team had won three-straight Landmark Conference games.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Goucher enjoyed winning its first Landmark Conference game of the season two nights ago and tonight, Patrick Daniel's squad did it again with a 70-59 triumph over Juniata.

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher caught fire in the second half, scoring as many points in the third quarter as it did in the first two combined, and entered the fourth trailing by five points. The Blue and Gold made that up — and more — as Monique Welch (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) hit two free throws with 7.4 seconds left to take the 62-61 lead. Patrick Daniel's squad fate was sealed as Drew missed a pair on the other end, leading to their first Landmark Conference win of the season.

TOWSON, Md. — Although Goucher never enjoyed a lead the entire game, the first Landmark Conference victory of the season was there for head coach Patrick Daniel's Gophers to grab in the fourth quarter tonight when they gained possession of the ball with :44 showing on the clock, trailing Susquehanna by just a point.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — A slow start was the worst-case scenario for Patrick Daniel's squad tonight as it faced an Elizabethtown team who was riding a four-game home win streak. Goucher shot 4-of-26 from the field in the first half, which eventually led to a 66-44 Landmark Conference defeat.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Similar to the match up on Dec. 2, Goucher struggled defensively and fell to Moravian, for a second-straight time, 72-48.

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher couldn't figure out a way to stop the fast-paced offense of seventh-ranked Scranton as it put up 72 points against the blue and gold for a 72-37 defeat this evening.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Goucher couldn't find its groove in the nation's capital tonight as the blue and gold dropped a Landmark Conference contest to Catholic, 78-60.
