Gophers Get Good Win At Home Over Delaware Valley
The Goucher College Women's Basketball team made a late push in the fourth quarter and got their first win of the season beating Delaware Valley 75-65.
TOWSON, MD - After controlling the tempo and leading throughout the game until late in the fourth quarter, the Goucher College Women's Basketball team made a late push after falling behind by two points and got their first win of the season by beating Delaware Valley by ten ppoints, 75-65, tonight at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
Junior co-captain Briana Bull (Baltimore, MD) led the Gophers with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Two freshman that continue to have good starts to the 2016 season, Katie Pacak (Annandale, VA) and and Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, MD) made significant contributions to the Gophers victory. Pacak had 16 points, and Omo-Osagie chipped in with 10 points. Pacak also led Goucher in rebounds with eight and both Bull and Omo-Osagie had seven rebounds apiece. Nailah Jones (Glenn Dale, MD) dished out seven assists to lead the Gophers. The Gophers shot 50% for the field for the game compared to 40% for the visitors.
How It Happened:
· The Gophers took an early nine point lead going up 12-3 in the first 4:00 minutes of the game, but Delaware Valley fought back and the Gophers led 17-13 after the first quarter.
· In the first eight minutes of the second quarter, the Gophers and Delaware Valley went back and forth with the lead changing hands five different times. In those eight minutes no team led by more than three points. Over the final 2:05 of the second quarter, Goucher went on a 7-2 run and went into halftime with a 39-31 lead.
· Turnovers and poor shooting (37%) in the third quarter by the Gophers allowed Delaware Valley to trim Goucher's lead to four points, 54-50 going into the fourth quarter.
· With 6:28 left in the game, Delaware Valley took the lead at 60-58, but the Gopher's Briana Bull hit a jumper to tie the game at 60-60 with 6:09 left in the game.
· Over the next four minutes, both teams traded the lead back and forth with no team leading by more than three points.
· With 2:32 left in the game, Delaware took the lead by two (65-63) on a three-point play. The Gophers responded by going on a 12-0 to end the game which included going 3-3 on shot attempts and 6-8 from the free throw line.

· "This was a very good win for us and I am extremely proud of this team and how they responded after going down two late in the game and then going on a 12-0 run to end the game."
· "We did some really good things and it certainly helped contribute to this team win. We look forward to opening up conference play here at home this Saturday going against a very good Susquehanna team."
