Bull Jumps Up Three Spots on All-Time Scoring List Against Juniata
Junior Briana Bull surpassed three spots on the all-time scoring list at Goucher with 32 points in a 70-64 loss in the Decker SRC Arena to Juniata College on Wednesday evening.
TOWSON, MD – Junior Briana Bull surpassed three spots on the all-time scoring list at Goucher with 32 points in a 70-64 loss in the Decker SRC Arena to Juniata College on Wednesday evening.
Bull, who now has 1,143 career points, surpassed Sharnell Huff '14, Kim Rogers '01 and Stephanie Tolbert '04 to move into sixth place all-time scoring in Goucher women's basketball history. The junior guard has distance to cover in order to catch fifth place Betsy Weingarten '88 with 1,433 points. Bull also tied Amber Smith '10 for third all-time steals in Goucher history with 217.
In addition to leading the Gophers (4-19, Landmark 0-13) in scoring, Bull led the team with 12 rebounds in the game for her 16th double-double of the season and seventh in a row. Senior Jaida Scarborough scored 13 points while collecting nine assists and five rebounds. First-year Katie Pacak scored 12 points and corralled seven rebounds for Goucher.
The Eagles were paced by junior Dani Atkinson with 21 points, five rebounds and three steals. Senior Katy Leamer added 18 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
How It Happened:
- Both teams started out strong on the offensive end of the court, battling for the lead before Juniata created space 19-9 over the Gophers with 1:27 to go in the first period.
- Goucher closed the gap at the end of the first, bringing them within five, 21-16.
- The Gophers outpaced the Eagles in the second quarter, 13-8, and knotted the game up 29-29 heading into half time.
- Goucher's Bull had 20 points in the first half on 8-of-16 shooting from the field.
- Juniata found solace from the charity stripe in the third quarter shooting 8-of-8 from the line, creating a 53-47 lead heading into the final stanza.
- The Gophers kept pace with the Eagles in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 70-64 at the final buzzer.
- Goucher shot 37.5% (24-of-64) from the field while the Eagles hit 30.0% (21-of-70) of their shots.
- The major difference came from the charity stripe with Juniata shooting 84.0% (21-of-25) compared to the Gophers 46.7% (14-of-30) shooting.
- Goucher held an advantage in points in the paint 30-18 over the course of the game.
